I mostly work with school children who are afraid of maths or dislike it intensely.
If made fun and taught in an informal and exploratory manner, learning mathematics can be a stress-free and enjoyable activity.
It takes a couple of sessions to establish a rapport with a student and then the learning begins in earnest.
It takes time to get a student relaxed. To be assured of not being put down or scolded for making a mistake. And once this trust is established, it is time to construct the scaffolding for a life long love and understanding of mathematics.
A bit about me:
I have a bachelors degree in mathematics and a masters in computer science. I have been working in the IT industry for 30 years in different countries (India, US and New Zealand)
I tutor because it is a hobby and I love to see the lights go on when a child realises that they can understand maths. The joy - when they see it as fun and challenging.
